Access and Cancellations

Introduction

The Tankerville Arms aims to cater for the needs of all its guests. The bar and restaurant are on the ground floor, with three bedrooms on the first floor. There is a disabled toilet on the ground floor, but the guest bedrooms are unsuitable for wheelchair access.

Pre-Arrival

There is a bus service running between Wooler and Alnwick, and the bus stop is 100 metres from the Inn. The service is number 470, and there are four return trips daily. The nearest railway station is at Alnmouth, some 15km away, where the East Coast line connects London with Edinburgh and beyond. There is also an accessible taxi service available, which should be reserved in advance.

Arrival and Car Parking

There is on- and off-street car parking immediately in front of the Inn, and assistance with luggage and entry is available at reception. The car park surface is gravel, and slopes slightly. Vehicles can reverse to the entrance, which has a low step (8cm) with a portable ramp. The entrance is less than 2 metres from the nearest car parking spot, and access is through two doorways, with a minimum width of 82cm.

Main Entrance, Reception and WC

The doorway leads to the level bar and restaurant areas, although a portion of the restaurant is raised, with two stairs of 12cm and 18cm. The toilets are also on the same level, and there is a separate unisex disabled WC (46cm high, with support rail) and basin (69cm high with lever-operated taps). The ladies toilets feature two cubicles, whilst the gents has one cubicle and three urinals. All three toilet areas are floored in tile only.
Staff are on duty throughout the day, and there is a bell for attention. The minimum door-width throughout is 72cm.

Bar and Restaurant

Tables and seating in the bar and restaurant are in the main moveable, with bench seats and chairs with and without arms. Lighting is varied, with brighter and softer areas, and some tables with natural light. The flooring varies from carpet and wood to tiling and stone flags. Staff will be happy to assist if menu reading is difficult, and food is served to each table. Most dietary requirements can be accommodated.
